A most exquisite & rare Chinese export, hand embroidered silk piano shawl, c.1905-15. In a very rarely found huge size! The shawl is made from off-white silk, and hand emboridered heavily throughout with thick floss to a floral motif comprising of oversized Chrysanthemums, swags, buds and blossoms, all in a vast array of vivid colours!

 

Each floral motif features at least two colours used in the embroidery, sometimes three or four, which is a testament to the fine handwork executed in this rare textile. The colours range from hot ruby red, to hot sapphire and a merriment of colours inbetween!

 

The shawl is edged with long, cream silk hand-knotted crochet fringe. It gives such a whimsical drama when used as a fashion accessory, and will also prove it's a true, antique treasure if used either decoratively or fashionabley!

 

 

Measurements: 74" x 74," the fringe is an additional 18."

 

The condition is almost Excellent- there are some tiny little occasional spots in the silk, thus very minor and almost impossible to spot.
