A rare & vivid, hand embroidered piano shawl, 1920's. Embroidered with thick silk floss in a vast range of shades, to include garnet, ruby, orange, amethyst, navy, yellow, blue, grey, etc. Executed to a large floral, blossom & swag motif, with a central circular wreath on black silk.

 

Edged with multi-colour silk crochet fringe, which gradually changes in colour. Notice how incredibley dense the embroidery is, carefully done so's not to expose any of the fabric it's been applied to!

 

Typically, piano shawls of the period were Cantonese exports, and although highly prized and loved, it's always a rarity to find a non-Chinese example such as this, probably produced in western Europe. It's a gorgeous & versatille fashion, or decorative accessory!

The condition is Excellent- the colours have all retained their original vibrance through to this day!
