Maggy Rouff sequined party dress, 1940's
|
£795 / Item Ref. #3248
With early cinema stars, such as Greta Garbo & Pola Negri,
fascinated by the designs of of Rouff, it would be no surprise that in the
following years the successful, early, Parisian couturier would open her
own maison. Her fashion house opened in 1928, where one could find
her sumptuous eveningwear creations, but also the house offered an unusual
twist, and also sold her famous sportswear fashions, which were firstly
most popular! Although her main line of work was a true couturier, her
house also sold a ready-to-wear evening line.
This striking cocktail example is fashioned from petal pink silk
organza, and heavily embellished with an allover 'shimmer' of iridescent
sequins. Having a luminous pink satin, angular lapels with stitched
detailing. All of the sequins have been hand sewn in a dispersed
manner, with heavier areas than other, giving it a sparkling contrast!
Cut with an full flared skirt, and shaped waist. The dress also has
it's original pink silk underslip, which has a stiffend horse-hair
band at the hem for shaping. It fastens at the central front with hooks
and eyes, whilst the underslip also fastens in the same manner. Labelled
