Emanuel 'Circus Collection' runway gown, c.1989

£580 / Item Ref.# 30223

A stunning & rare Emanuel runway original gown, for the 1989 Circus collection! This is a most rare example of the works of the Emanuels—and the extraordinary gown is from the personal collection of David & Elizabeth, and shall come with provenance to verify this.

As many already know, in 1981 the Emanuels were asked by Lady Diana Spencer, to design what would become the wedding gown for the century, for the marriage of Lady Diana to The Price of Wales. The Emanuels had recently designed a black evening dress for Lady Diana, which would change the image of a shy teenager, into that of a future princess. Some 700 million television viewers watched as the Emanuel name became a symbol overnight.

This gown comes from the renowned Circus collection of 1989, which produced dozens of amazing and unique pieces—all bearing resemblence to the fun, romance and grandeur of a circus! The gown is a runway original, worn during the presentation of the collection, etc.

It's fastened from turquoise and lavender jacquard & moiré, trimmed with golden fringe and decorated with bows & sequins. The interior construction is as dazzling a feast for the eyes, as the exterior! Comprised of tierred layers of tulle petticoats with pannier pillows for shaping. The gown fastens by lace-up to the back.

An extremely heavy-weight dress, as one can imagine! It's truely a loveable creation, and able to be appreciated by even the "non-exuberant" fashionistas, thus everything about the gown is perfect, even the combination of colours. Possibly the lucky wearer will be able to reminise on the thought of a film- such as The Greatest Show on Earth (1955), after having fallen in love with all the romantic costumes the preformers wore, and ponder on the thought that the fun and excitement of the circus was brought into fashion thanks to the Emmanuels!

Measurements: up to 36" Bust and 26" Waist, the lace-up fastening allows for the dress to accomidate a few inches down also, as it could be laced up tighter for 2" smaller in the bust and waist.

The condition is almost Excellent- one small tear to the interor jacquard, it's not in any way visible from the exterior.
