A seductive, black lace & tulle cocktail dress by William
Travilla, of the early 1980's. Travilla gained his fame by designing and
producing the film wardrobe to Marilyn Monroe, for eight of her major
films- including There's No Business Like Show Business (1954),
The Seven Year Itch, and Gentleman Prefer Blondes, to
name a few.
Also, having created countless pieces for her personal &
photo-shoot wardrobe, as her love for his works extended far outside of
the film set- she once enclosed a note on an autographed photo
to Travilla reading '-dress me forever.'
This dress bears great importance as it features the very same design
technique to the hem which Travilla also used in the famous broadway gown
that Monroe wore as her main stage costume in There's No Business Like
Show Business (see Travilla's sketch below).
It's lined in silk, and fastens at the back with a zipper, labelled
Travilla.
Measurements: rare generous, larger size!
Bust 38", Waist 29".
The condition is
Excellent. |
