Rare, mint-condition satin corset, c.1895
|
£695 / Item Ref.# 20103
Very desireable & truely feminine, English overbust corset,
c.1895. The voluptuous shape of this classic, late-19th C. corset is only
one of it's many delights! It's fashioned from shiny
black satin, and very prettily embroidered, in a feminine shade
of petal pink along the edges with floral swags, and also with
criss-cross motifs. Very heavily boned to give maximum shaping &
support—when the dramatic 'wasp-waist' was the envy for those whom
were fashion forward!
Labelled with a few markings which read 'The Y&N Corset / The
Y&N Diagonal Seam Trademark," "French Finish," "Y&N Diagonal
Seam." Complete with black laces (probably the originals). Today, if a
client were to approach a corsetiere and commision them to make a corset
to their requirements, the price would heavily exceed the price of this
fine original!
Measurements: these measurements apply to when the
corset is fully lace, without space at the back, though originally when
worn there would have been about a 2" gap for the lacing- Bust 36", Waist
26".
The condition is Mint/Excellent- obviously it is an
antique piece, but yes it is in mint condition! The metal clasps are shiny
& non-rusted, whilst the satin is brightly clean without weakening.
Would appear to have only been worn once and very well preserved
thereafter. Antique corsets in this condition are extremely rare, as their
heavy usage easily amounted to many signs of damage and
wear, I fould no flaws or defects in this beautiful antique
treasure! |
