Item Ref.# 20074 Sold
The most grand of all ball and evening gowns, ever to be presented or offered on the open market! The Worth name is and forever will remain- not only a name, but a meaning that delights and epitomizes the entire structure of fine fashion, and sets the highest standards or design, quality, beauty, and perfection- that are still yet to be reached by any.
This amazing example, which we are proud to call our's, is a masterpiece that rarely enters into the open market, baring this in mind- it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to seize what is always a dream! The magnificent ball gown (although there are no suitable words to come vagley near in being able to describe the fascination it beholds), flaunts Worth's name to the utmost degree, of the manner in which we forever dream. It is fashioned from lavishly rich and vivid, deep blue silk satin, and decorated throughout with cut/applied panné velvet- an amazing combination! The panne velvet is a most desireable choice- as it is the wonderous effect of dramatically changing its shade- giving the illusion of different tones and depths to its blue color.
With its whimsical shape and romance, it is further decorated by ivory Brussels appliqué lace along the neckline and short sleeves. The bodice is devinely adorned with strands of silver beaded fringe along the edge of the bossom, with further adorments of sparkling paste stones, and a silver beaded collar which circles around the neck and backline. There is also silver beaded fringe along the backline of the gown. Worth is always renown for his use of astonishing fabrics, and need for minimal surface decorations- this gown is a perfect example. Notice that the fabric itself is not decorated in any way, other than with the use of another fabric- the panné velvet. This velvet has been applied to the silk satin in a manner that allows it to be a work of art, of its own!- rather than the need for small touches of baubles to the fabric throughout, the cut velvet suffices as all the surface decoration the gown needs- and in most respects is far more fascinating and beautiful than just baubles and trims, as the work put into it is far greater and easy to appreciate.
The bodice is boned for support, and the entire gown is fully lined, with a dust ruffle along the inside of hem of the skirt. It fastens to the back with inner lacings for the underbodice, and hook and eyes. Labeled to the bodice, and also having a couture number tape label beneath. If you were to wear the gown, it should definitely be worn with your finest strand of Cartier or Jar diamonds! We can certainly say that this is one of those gowns that you have to just stop, and stand back in awe with endless amounts of admiration. Clients may note that six-month layaways are available for this item.
Measurements: a rarely found semi-generous size! (no greater than) Bust- 38", Waist- 28", Hips- 40".
The condition is VeryGood to Excellent- very minor bead loss (to be expected) and some "rubbing" to the material behind the beaded fringe which is not visible when displayed or worn. Very clean inside and out, and gently wearable. |
